Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele has openly declared herself a feminist, emphasizing that feminism is not about disrespecting men but about mutual respect in relationships.

In a recent video, the actress made it clear that being a feminist does not give women a free pass to disregard or undermine their husbands. Instead, she believes that for a relationship to thrive, both men and women must honor and support each other.
Akindele also touched on the importance of financial independence for women, stating that economic power allows women to make decisions about their livelihood while still supporting their husbands. However, she reinforced the idea that men should care for and nurture women, acknowledging them as the weaker vessel.
She condemned the idea of men mistreating their partners or limiting them to kitchen duties, stressing that women deserve to be treated with dignity and fairness.

While many agreed with her stance, some felt she should avoid discussing feminist concepts altogether.
Here are some reactions:
@Oshe Emmanuel – If to say woman dey fit give woman Belle, man for dey see strong thing for this Nigeria when we dey.
@Fidora Anyanwu – This is exactly my idea of what feminism is. Respect your husband and honor him. He too should not put you where you will have to question your self-worth.
@Princess Olojede Bose – Funke, I love you o, but stay out of contentious issues o. Nor let frustrated people come drag you for socio medium.
@SarahEse HappyAkonedo – Aunty Funke is the real feminist, the first woman to send her husband back to his parents’ house for proper home training.
What are your thoughts? Is feminism really about mutual respect, or is it something more?
